Description
The Philippines Department of Tourism (PDOT), London Field Office headed by Domingo Ramon ‘Chicoy’ Enerio has successfully participated two of the UK’s leading consumer travel fairs – “The Holiday & Travel Shows” in Manchester on 12 to 14  January, and in Glasgow on 19 to 21 January 2007.

The UK’s premiere consumer shows are held annually at G-Mex Centre in Manchester and the SECC (Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre) in Glasgow, offering the chance to see the world and consult the experts from a huge range of destinations.

The shows, which attract approximately 121,000 visitors in the two cities each year over the course of three days, play an integral part in the travel and tourism industry for the consumer market and are primarily participated by around 800 exhibitors representing more than 100 countries.

The attendance to this year’s events is a major marketing objective for the PDOT to reach out to as many potential UK clients as possible and increase promotional efforts and campaigns for future travel to the Philippines. PR Officer Ms. Rosario “Chit” Afuang adds that “the UK market needs to be more aware of the beauty of the Philippines, its wide range of products and activities, exotic destinations, excellent services are amongst others we can offer to long haul travelers. We need to maintain firm visibility in the UK and this is the perfect time to start considering travel options in other parts of the Far East such as the Philippines”.

The Philippines proved to be a big hit with its displays of   roll-ups featuring top tourist destinations and activities such as diving in the coral reefs of Palawan; beach holidays in the white powdery-fine sandy beaches of Boracay;  Banaue Rice Terraces as seen in the areas of Ifugao; and the famous Philippine Eagle found in Davao. A country that comprises of 7,107 islands, the Philippines is abundant in natural resources, history, culture, cuisine and travel destinations that spread from the northern tip of Luzon to the southern end of Mindanao.

Visitors in Manchester and Glasgow were introduced to the latest tourism flyers produced by DOT London, consisting of leisure tour and dive packages in collaboration with top UK travel trade partners. Also available for the visitors are dive brochures, general information kits, DVDs and maps.  In addition, visitors at the two stands are treated to giveaways like beaded necklaces, native jewelry boxes, spa kits and jeepneys.  Guests participate in a one-on-one question-and-answer activity which gave visitors a chance to learn about the Philippines and spend more time discovering the country.

The Philippine participation at the Holiday & Travel Shows is a clear indication that tourism promotions to the Philippines remain firmly grounded with a succession of more travel trade and consumer events to follow later in the year in the effort to intensify the promotions of Philippine tourism in the UK.
