Ghana is located on the southern coast of the West Africa and has as its eastern neighbour Togo, on the west, the Ivory Coast, on the south the Atlantic Ocean and on the north and northwest, Burkina Faso.
 
Low sandy shores near the sea give way to the coastal plains inward except in the West where the forests extend to near the sea. The forest vegetation in the Western coast stretches towards the North and moves east, where it runs for about 170 miles into Ashanti interspersed by hills with dense woods and steep ridges. The forest gives way to the Savannah in the north where the two rivers Black Volta and White Volta merge and flow southward through a narrow gap in the hills into the sea. the highest point in the country is recorded 29,000 feet height on a point in the hills on the eastern border. There is a total lack of natural harbours in Ghana. Most rivers except for the Volta, the Pra and the Ankobra, finally fall into lagoons.
