Description
The Philippines Department of Tourism (PDOT) participated in a winter soiree organized by the Filipino Society held recently at the Shaw Library of the London School of Economics (LSE).
As the major sponsor of the event, PDOT Tourism Attaché Domingo Ramon Enerio III presented facts and figures showing the growth of tourism in the Philippines, which could be credited in large part to the increasingly-active involvement of the UK Filipino communities in tourism marketing and promotions. Enerio continued to urge the LSE Filipino Society to support efforts leading to an increase of British tourists to the Philippines, reminding the economic-minded crowd of the benefit derived from tourism revenues, and what it can do to boost the country’s economy.
Guests were amazed upon seeing the various beach destinations and tourist attractions that the Philippines can offer to the visitors. The audience remarked that the Philippines was such a diverse destination that can offer so many opportunities for relaxation, enjoyment and adventure.
Attaché Enerio ended his presentation by enumerating some of the major ongoing programs of PDOT, and urged the LSE Filipino Society once again to become active instruments of Philippine tourism in the United Kingdom.
Travel Philippines
PDOT launched a cultural presentation with the special participation of the Philippine Bayanihan Dance Company in five cities in the U.K. where there is huge concentration of Filipinos namely, London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Bradford.
PDOT London recognizes the contribution that Filipino communities in this country can do in generating greater number of British visitors to the Philippines, and thus wishes to capitalize on their strengths and connections in selling and promoting Philippine tourism to the UK market. Registered Filipino “marketers” will encourage British friends to join and even organize trips to the Philippines. More information about these major projects is available at a new website: www.wowphilippines.co.uk/travel .
Friends Philippines
With the official launching of this program in November last year, Mr. Paul Dimond CMG, Chairman, Friends Philippines and former British Ambassador to the Philippines will spearhead a special tour on 15-30 November 2007 covering the bustling city of Manila, picturesque Taal Volcano, visits to century-old coconut plantation in Villa Escudero, the historic Cebu and the unspoiled island of Bohol. At the soiree, PDOT was able to achieve the support from approximately 100 students and professional attendees composed of Filipinos, British and other nationalities most of whom either have been to the Philippines or desired to visit in the future.
The Shaw Library was richly decorated with roll-ups featuring Philippine top tourist destinations. Information kits containing leisure/tour dive packages, DVDs and desk calendars were distributed to the guests.
